Alumni to Join Forces in Service at Three Sites

SUNY Plattsburgh graduates will go to work in three communities during the inaugural Alumni Day of Service this April 21.

The event — which the Office of Alumni Relations intends to make an annual occurrence — will feature teams of alumni helping nonprofits in Plattsburgh, Albany and the Washington, D.C., area. Read more.

Donor Funds Bluegrass for Next Generation

Residents of the North Country will have more access to bluegrass music than ever thanks to a donor to the SUNY Plattsburgh College Foundation.

The donor, a North Country bluegrass fan who wishes to remain anonymous, has given funds to establish Bluegrass for the Next Generation. His goal is to promote the genre at the college and in the community. Read more.

Study Finds Insects Previously Unknown to Science

Aquatic insects. They are the energy that drives the food web in our lakes and streams. They power our fisheries.

Yet, very little is known about the creatures. Take those in the Adirondacks, for instance. No one knows the total number or the full variety of insect species in the park.

Recently, the college’s Lake Champlain Research Institute set out to change at least some of that. Read more.

 

Preparing for Year-Round Adventure

Skiing, ice climbing, hiking — you name it — students in the expeditionary studies major take part in backcountry adventures year-round. When they do, we want them fully prepared. Read more.
